AN-400TM installed at San Remo, Victoria, Australia

San Remo

Atlantis has been operating its own dedicated tidal power test facility in San Remo, Victoria, since 2006. Our test facility is connected to the grid and our installed turbines dispatch power directly to national grid, offering our technical teams the opportunity to develop and test our turbines in a real world environment. We have had a Nereus™ turbine installed continuously for the past 12 months allowing R&D to be completed on control systems, grid connection software and hardware, material science, system health monitoring, remote monitoring, diagnostics and control, power train optimisation and resource analysis.

Our San Remo facility also offers an excellent opportunity for all forms of environmental monitoring to be conducted, both internally and independently to assist local, state and federal governments to shape permitting policy. Atlantis conducts independent assessments of water quality inclusive of salinity, pH, dissolved solids, turbidity, impacts on local flora and fauna as well as noise and vibration monitoring.

In over two years of independent testing, Atlantis has recorded zero environmental impact. It has been concluded that the Nereus™ turbine installed at the Newhaven site poses no threat to migrating mammals from an acoustics perspective nor any of the local population of seals and penguins due to the low rpm of the turbine when in operation.

Zero environmental impact on our surroundings is an achievement that we are proud of at Atlantis.
